Hello

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
be careful on the beef heart..there diet is 97 percent fish and fish parts. i do give mine beef heart every few days as a treat but most people on here will say that its not good. sticking to fish is the way to go. the thing with feeders like everyone says is they could have parasites...i found out the hard way...although i didnt lose a fish they did get a parasite which they no longer have...but thats from feeders.

Thanks alot all for the help, really appreciate it. Well ill have to buy some shimp and some other fish things and see how it goes, and will let yas know :P. For lighting i was thinking of getting a nice blue light. How much do i feed them? and how many times a week do i feed them also? i was told to feed them every 2days, is that true? and not sure how much i should feed them also :/. Also my heater is set the the right hand side of the tank beside the filter, is that the right place to set it? and the temp is set to 27/28C or 78/79F is that right also?

Thanks Brendan

I feed mine every day. And I have my water set to about 84 F but 78/79 will be fine too.

the warmer the tank the more aggressive and hungry they will be. i keep mine at 80. i feed mine once a day...sometimes more. some people suggest 3x a day...others say 1x a week...so if they are hungry you will know...just feed 1 or 2x a day.

im not really sure...i throw like 3 silversides in there and who ever gets em gets em.. they will learn to eat

nothing wrong with a blue light ,but will probably not do a lot for the colour of your fish , i you are wanting to bring out the reds try something like a beuty light ,which brings out the reds , if your not to bothered about the colour then by all means use a actinic blue light this will indeed provide a light that is not too bright for them .

cheers col

Welcome to the site and congrats on your first pair of piranha. From what I could see in the pics, they look healthy! Read as much as you can and do required maintenance and they will be fine. They are not hard fish to care for.

Thanks Sanjo Eel, ill try my best to look after them, as it would be a wash to let them die. How often do you clean yr tanks water? should i take out about 1g aweek?

Thanks Brendan
