So i found a 300 gal tank/stand on craig's list and am in the process of cleaning it up. Im trying to get some ideas on what to stock it with once it's ready so i thought this would be a good place to start getting ideas.

hi and welcome . you've got allot of options, have fun getting it set up :)

Congradulations on such a find..300 gal is a great tank..... and welcome to MFK... going to be fun to stock that tank... any ideas so i can put you in the right direction or do you just want to go through the forums until you find something that you like...either way it is going to be fun for you..you will find lots of info and pics here... nice to meet you..

here's a pic. its outside and i filled it up to check for leaks. figured i should do that first. im in the process of sanding the whole thing down and restaining the stand.

It was only $300.

im thinking i want to do fresh water, i like the south american cichlids. so far im thinking one large cichlid, probably a tiger oscar, along with a few smaller cichlids like firemouth or convict, and a couple cats or other bottom feeder. i really like silver tipped sharks but it seems they require brackish water so thats out.

300 you stole it, oscars put oscars in it

wow great deal for sure... what a tank set up.. i have silver tip or columbian sharks and yes they are brackish... they are great... but with this big tank you can really have an assortment of many types..looking forward to seeing it set up... :headbang2

sorry im not up on the fish lingo.

i think you said peacock bass and arowana, the others im not sure

i thought about putting an arowana in there, but i didn't think it would coexist with cichlids very well.

Welcome to MFK!! Nice pick up for that price! Actually arowana's will do fine with cichlids. As you browse through the forums and pictures, you will see alot of people keep Arowana's with cichlids. Make sure you post some pics of that monster tank when its all set up! Enjoy!!
