Hi eveyone, I love this site; found it from watching Youtube videos and searching arowana sites a while back and just haven't had the chance to write an intro thread yet (I'm a Phlebotomist and a Nursing Student so most of my time is spent either study, at school, or sucking blood, lol). I hope to gain a greater informative aspect of fishkeeping from here than I already do. Right now I've got:
(2x) 10 gallon tanks - both freashwater and have been running for 1 1/12 years now.
7 - Fancy Guppies (to which the fry are transfered to a 1 gallon tank (for now) with an undergravel filter, used as a grow-out tank until they get to the size that they won't be sucked up by the filter in the 10 gallon... or eaten by the others, lol - to which they will later on be food for the larger fish)
5" Chinese Algae Eater with a genetic defect in one of his eyes; think of Marilyn Manson's contacts - how one eye is dialated and the other is constricted.
Apple Ramhorn snails - breed to supplement the puffer's feeding
Ghost shrimp
The other houses;
5" Spotted Green Puffer (yeah, I know puffers are brackish water fish but I bought him a year a go, back when he was only an inch long, and he's done fine since - he had never nipped anyone's fin or the such - I plan on eventually housing him in a brackish water tank)
6" Chinese Algae Eater (who likes to pick on the puffer and the Loach; nothing threatening really, more like he's the tank bully by chaseing them around for a few seconds before going back into his tube)
6" Dojo Weather Loach
3" Zig-Zag Eel
(These guys will be moved to the 55 Gallon tank as soon as I get my 160 Gallon all set up and cycled.)
Ghost shimp - I tend to buy about 12 every other week, what the puffer doesn't eat live in the plants. I've thought about setting up a tank (I have an empty 15 gallon tank, that I got along with the 160 gallon, that I've thought about doing this with - or setting it up for the guppy fry) specifically for breeding either Ghost Shrimp, Cherry Shrimp, or both but would like to find out more about that - specifically tank parameters and the such.
55 Gallon - freashwater and been running for 1 1/2 years now.
Equipment:
Marineland Penguin BIO-Wheel 350
CO2 setup with 5# tank and home made reactor (I had it running for quite a while, but I need to get another powerhead for it)
Stock:
20" Tire-track Eel
12" Rope Fish
10" Black Ghost Knife
7" Common Pleco
5" Gold Veil Angelfish
160 Gallon - just bought it used from some one and in the process of setting it all up and getting it ready for its fishless cycle.
Equipment:
(2x) H.O.T. Magnum Pro systems with (2x) BIO-Wheel Pro 60 - one for each
Yeah, I know, not enough filtration for it, but I'm looking at getting either a Magnum 350, a Fluval FX5, a Hagen 405 (etc on canister filters), setting up a inline system (with a Lifegard AF-94 Triple, AF-93 Triple, AF-92 Double), or setting a wet/dry sump tank. I'm also thinking about getting either a Lifegard 25w UV Sterilizer or a Aquastep 25w UV Sterilizer.
**** I would LOVE to hear some feedback from people who already own such equipment (except about the Fluval FX5 - I already know it's a GREAT filter, but I don't about the rest which is why I would like the feedback for instead - UNLESS you happen to have or had one of the others as well before, then PLEASE leave me some feedback about the PROS and CONS to each, lol) ****
