Hi,
I just joined this site. Pretty good info I found already.
I have a 180g, with a 10" orange stripe pike, a few chiclids, a 5" Frontosa, a couple parrots, a convict and a few muts...lol
I am thinking about the tea cup rays, but I dont see getting a larger tank. Would a tea cup be ok in a 180g?

And sadly, no freshwater ray can live out it's life in a standard 180.

Well the name teacup to me indicates Small so without actual size estimate of a full grown one of these it would be hard to say, a 180 is a nice sized tank so im gonna vote yes,

they sell them in my lFS and they dont get much bigger than bout 6 inches disc diameter apparently

"teacups" are just a common name given to small rays. usually you are looking at retics, go to the stingray forum and you will find a lot of info... and to answer the ? no rays won't live forever in that tank, and prly wouldn't be a good combo with cichlids anyway

welcome to MFK.. nice to meet you...funny i was thinking of getting a tea cup ray last week too..but i thought about the long term and decided until i was sure about getting the next big tank and all the tank mates i would wait.. but it was hard passing it by.. if you have any questions let me know.. looking forward to seeing your collection...

What are the dimensions of this 180 gallon tank? Also A teacup ray is also known as hystrix or a retic their maximum size is about 14'' a good rule for stingrays is to have at least twice as much length or width then the rays diameter . you could keep a retic or a hystrix in a 48''X24X24 120 gallons. However you will need great filtration! and atleast a 40% water change per week. also if the tanks only for rays u could get a 48X48X12 tank!
