My name is Nick, and I live in Virginia. Now that the explanation of my super creative user name is out of the way......

I've been keeping fish for quite a few years now, mostly little guys, easy fish that didn't require too much knowledge or equipment.

That was until I, like so many others apparently, was duped by employees of pet stores. It wasn't too bad of a duping, I just bought some Oscars for a 55 gallon tank being told that "yeah, sure, 55 gallons for two Oscars and a Jack Dempsey? No problems!" Normally I'm not one to be tricked like this, but I was told by several employees at several stores it was fine. So I did it.

It was only in later reading that I discovered this wasn't the greatest situation for the fish. So I started looking to upgrade. Not a huge deal, I love fish and planned on upgrading to a larger tank anyway, this just kind of forced my hand.

So now I'm the owner of a 150 gallon tank. I found a great deal on it, all I had to do was get it out of the owners house. Doesn't get much better than that, right? Oh, except this peach of a deal came with a Pacu. He's about 12 inches right now, is about six months old according to the previous owner, and is getting along just fine with two Oscars, a Jack Dempsey, and a Pleco. Sadly, I know this 150 gallon tank will never be big enough for this guy and I do have plans in the future of expanding to a much bigger tank (this is a vicious cycle).

So that's what brings me here. I'll be posting questions in the appropriate forums after I do some reading around here to see what's already been covered.

So, there you have it, my introduction.

View attachment 338350welcome to MFK Nick.. very nice to meet you.. and you are someone after my own heart.. i had two beautiful pacu for 8 years..unfortunatly lost them due to an accident.. but they were the best fish i ever owned.. they have such a great personality.. i fed mine all kinds of veggies .. they are vegetarians,.. although they also will eat pellets etc.. cannot wait to see yours.. and if you have any questions.. just ask... always here to help...

Here are a couple of photos. One is "Paco" the pacu by himself, the other is him with his buddies "Red", "Oscar" and "Jack".

Yeah, my son named them. :)

Mine is starting to eat the cherry tomatoes and broccoli I toss in there, I'm weaning him off the tropical flakes the previous owner fed him.

He also has a habit of stealing the oscars' food (bloodworms, beefhearts, etc.). But I'm not really sure how to prevent that but I figure it won't hurt him.

Thanks for the welcomes. From what I've seen so far this is the place to be for information on keeping some healthy, happy fish. It also seems to be the place to be to prove to my wife that I'm not nearly as bad at spending insane amounts of money on my fish as some other people are. :D

Welcome! :)

Welcome Welcom

You know, I'm kind of surprised at how much time the three of them spend together. I don't know why, I just didn't expect them to become pals like that.
