lol suppose you cant grow the fun neps either...........ive got hamata, lowii, aristo., and jacq. down in my basement though they are fairly small yet. i do have a jacq. x izumae thats going nuts and has about 3 foot of vine. a buddy is just getting me started in the petolaris complex. just got a bunch fresh out of TC as well as a order of seeds from Aussieland. never could grow regia ive killed several clones so far and have given up.

Rattler,

I had all of these for years in a high-altitude greenhouse with cool pads and a a/c system for nighttime cooling. N. lowii did the best and I still have some N. lowii x veitchii, a hybrid that I made several years ago (and is available in tissue culture through several growers). But I finally gave up on most of the highland plants because it was expensive and very time consuming. I started with tropical fish at 3 when my folks got me a couple of tanks, so I have sort of gone back to my roots as it were. I still have lots of lowland Neps though, bical., amps, truncata, veitchii, etc. but I do miss the highland plants. Maybe one day I'll move to Hawaii at 4000' and try again!

beautiful hybrid, ive been half looking for one for awhile. i saw a very nicely grown one when i visited another grower down in Colorado, however an equally well grown, blood red jacq. that was sitting next to it left me drooling. a good friend of mine who is working as a stateside distributer for Wistuba sent me one last fall, im really hoping its a red clone and not the green one but its to young to tell for sure though its getting some reddish blushing on the leaves so it looks like its possiblly a red one

Welcome!!! Once you get 5 posts you can see more pics....

Welcome! Another Floridian to add to the mix! Very nice!!!

Samps,

Hey,

Yep born and raised. Been thinking about starting a native fish tank. I have some natives in a pond, but the only ones I ever see are the Green Mollies since they stay on the surface. Thought some Fundulus, some Golden Shiners and maybe a few of the smaller Sunfish Species in a planted tank with Jungle Val. I thought about taking an old (currently empty) 135 gal. and making a "river tank", that is a one way flow of current using powerheads at one end and sponge filter(s) at the other end connected by PVC under the gravel. The powerheads could be fitted with those devices that vary the direction of the output to keep the Jungle Val moving in the current. Sometimes you can find native fish at the LFS very cheap in the tanks with feeder Ghost Shrimp, often you see Swamp Darters, Killies and Sunfish, which you can save from being feeder fish, and shiners should be available at any bait store.

BTW, what fish are you keeping?

Hey,

Yeah, N. jacq. is a wonderful species. I had a small one, but when I got rid of the highland plants I gave it to a Botanic Garden that does very well with Nepenthes, especially highland ones.

Was just up in N. Carolina where I have a small Sarracenia bog. Cut all the dead leaves on the tall species down to the ground and used a leaf blower to get rid of last fall's leaves. A few of the purps have buds just coming up. But boy was it cold up there! Good to be back south.
