I got a new fish and he was in very cold water and I keep my tanks at 82.
Like a dumb ass I just threw him in Very hardy breed 9" carpintis. But it back fired on me.It kinda looks like ich but there are bigger almost like balls on the tips of the dorsal fins of some of them.Yes some of them it has spread to all me fish now. Here are a few picture

I'd dose salt for now. There's instructions for that in one of the sticky threads for ich. Keep a concentration of 0.3%.

I am aware this is not ich however as we cannot make an accurate diagnosis, at this point salt is your best defense along with frequent water changes. Salt will still keep fungal and bacteria infections at bay.

Are you able to scrape and scope this?

that would give you a definite answer.

It looks like Carp Pox, but I am not sure if Cichlids can get this. Do you have any koi or goldfish in your tank? It can be brought out by stress.

I agree with Lupin about salting.

EDIT: After further looking at the pics, it does seem that there might be some ich present (last 2 pic on it's fins). So there might be 2 different things going on.

It's easy to assume viral infection without eliminating other possibilities. A microscope would indeed be the best way to diagnose properly the white tuft.

Good point, Mshill. I looked closely at the last two shots and there seems ich involved.

Have you dosed salt yet?

Yes and Ich guard

If you've had tanks for over 30 years, you should know your stuff, which means you should know that you don't need to use both. It's one or the other.
