Help a noob out.

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
well I still think its a water problem. Tank is not cyled yet i bet...
Id do a 30% water change every two days for a week. then every 4 days for a few weeks..
If you are able to put the media from the old filter into the new filter, that would help. DONT wash it, just put it in there.
What kind of filter was on the 20 gal tank and what are you using on the new tank????
If you have any Prime, that would help also

That .5 ammonia is probably stressing them out. Dose the tank with Prime. I'm not sure which "BB in a bottle" product you're using, but I've heard great things about Seachem Stability. Try some of that. The Prime will make the ammonia safe for your fish, but still usable by the bacteria.

Make sure there are plenty of hiding spaces, too.

I used tetra safe start and using their dechlorinator as well. Old filter was an aqueon 20 and still being used with my juvenile electric blue, electric yellow, red zebra tank. New filters are two emperor 400's. I'm feeding them pellets and they swallow it then spit it out. There are also a lot of hiding places. Does gravel make a big difference in the color of the fish? they were darker in the 20 gal tank which has dark blue/light blue gravel. The tank they are in now has naturally colored gravel which is a lot lighter.

It's because your tank isn't cycled. From what I've heard, that safe start stuff doesn't really work. Get yourself some Seachem Stability, and Seachem Prime.

I have never tried the 'Safe-Start' method, but speaking from experience, the Seachem STABILITY Treatment DOES work!!!

He's not overstocked yet. Those fish are still small, although eventually he will have to upgrade. But right now the issue is ammonia, as the tank is uncycled.

and i also think its not cycled so take a sponge out of the old filter and put it in the new filter and that should transfear a good amount of bacteria over also do 20% water change every other day untill the waters testings show its fully cycled but really you will need a 240g eventually as they all grow large and agressive and will potentioly fight if not given large terratorys :nilly: :)
