prime is not a necessity.. its just an aid. dont forget that. you shouldnt depend on chemicals ;)

Honestly I dont check the nitrates and the ph. I just depend on my water changes. But Im very particular about ammonia and the nitrite. Those are the two that ive been told are the essentialAt the time I added the pbass the ammonia and nitrite were reading a solid zero. BUt after adding there first meal ( a few rosies) the ammonia did spike a little. From what I could see it was .25 I have that api test with the color chart. But later it did drop. My water stays at 85.7 degrees. For some reason and cant get it higher. This is according to the digital themometer. But I guess I have to take the good with the bad. The tsl and arrowan are doing fine. But i got into this bc of pbass. And further information will be great

You meant you water was literally clear ;) We misunderstood :)

Now would be a good time to invest in a full range test kit.. Mainly for personal knowledge in my opinion...

How long has the tank been up? Just a question needed out of the way.

Do you know the source of the cichla?? Before the lfsd.. Likely you will not be able to obtain this info.. but if you could that may help..

Oh i forgot to mention I did use ammo lock when the spike happend. I have used prim throught my tanks earyl cycle but have gotten away from it. I just use a regual ol water conditioner for the water changes

I have a 125 gl. Its been set up for two months and some change. I only got to feed them once before they got that whitish slim growth. Still cant figure out what it was. Its ahrd to believe that little ammonia casued it. But i do understand how fragile the are. I gav eup golf for this as a hobby bc it was raising my blood preasure. Doesnt seem to be working.jk Ill keep on trucking and learn as I go.

the whitish slim was ammonia burn from the spike that you had. .25 is high bradda. kind of seems like the tank wanted to cycle all over again and this was all with only one meal.. that means your tank isnt stable and was not ready for fish.. your ammonia should always be 0 if you ask me or you should make sure that you keep it around 0. for it to just raise that easy and that quick just after feeding them a couple of minnows then your tank was never finished cycling in the first place. also for the future, you never use chemicals when setup and going through the process of cycling a new tank.. it alters water chemistry and the readings that it might give off when testing to see if the tank is ready. i dont understand why you would even add prime.. it is to lower nitrates and when cycling you want everything to be sky high.. thats what forms your strong bacteria and then the bacteria will take over and everything will go down. if you were doing it to speed up the process then next time use live bacteria along with the cycle but i dont recommend it. i will add it sometimes after the cycles over and i do my first real* water change.

was this a fresh cycled tank?
