My 2 shrimp....

I myself just started in the fish keeping hobby. A co-worker of mine GAVE me a 29 gallon tank, with hood, lights, a bubble bar, heater and a filter!! He's a cool guy for sure. Anything we can do it enrich the hobby only helps us all. Eveybody keep up the finny frenzy!!

---WOW that was C-O-R-N-Y :naughty:

YEE-AHHHHH!!!!!!

When I moved back to Louisiana from Tn. years ago I had wanted to get back into fishkeeping. Not sure why because I had not owned a tank in many years but for some reason had the craving for it.

I stocked a 29g full of shoaling fish. One day a buddy of mine talked me into getting a oscar. I didn't know a thing about them at the time, just that my buddy said "oh yeah they have lots of personality." Within a week it slaughtered all of my fish. I was in shock but interested at the same time. I kept the oscar in the tank for a couple of months till I could get a 55g to move him into. He punished just about anything that went into the tank with him. :swear:

Just recently I scored a oceanic 100g from a lfs, with a stand, and glass hood for around 350 brand new. It was like starting over all over again I was so excited. :woot: I sold off my 29g to a friend and now she's a bigger fish freak than I am. I talked a few more people into it and I'm selling my 55g to a guy I work with who wants to set it up as a shark tank. Bala's, red tails, that sort of thing.

I never really thought about it till recently I've helped spread the joy of fishkeeping. Makes me feel are warm and fuzzy inside, lol. :mwave:

wOw! one of the best and genuine post ive ever read...
kudos to you brother who made this thread! this is indeed a-must-do sorta thing...
ur genius brother BDawG! i love u lol

Great post!!!

Someday i too will help out someone.

It's true about the addiction though. My co-worker is mad at me cuz everytime I tell him about a new tank on Craigslist - it's who can come up with the money first.

It takes a highly disciplined person to have just one tank.

I agree :) im 16 and i've always loved fish and the water i've ben fishing sence i was born and starting early this year decided on keeping the native fish im used to catching would be cool to see how they are in captive where i can see them swim and see what its like.. right now im so amazed by fish and how majestic they are i wish when and if i have a son that he will have the same intrest in fish as i do

Hey jw, but whats all the exact measurments that an oscar tank should be at, like the temp and all that stuff?

Man, way to derail my beautiful thread. Anyways, to have the minimum oscar tank, I would go with a 75g (48x18) and AT LEAST 150 gallons in filtration. I keep mine at about 79 degrees and feed hikari cichlid pellets along with frozen krill, beefheart, and the occassional minnow to keep him on his toes.

I agree: fishkeeping is a very addictive, rewarding and possibly expen$ive hobby, but I can't imagine ever being without my aquariums. I can't describe how much I love keeping fish! (yay! I have 2 posts now ;) )
