I came home and found my polypterus senegalus having trouble balancing etc..., i know he has a bubble in his stomach. I put him in a QT so the other fish won't bother him. He's not doing good right now he's just upside down not doing anything. I really need help he is one that is really close to me. Thanks for reading :(

seems like he's got his balance but when he goes near the light you can clearly see and air bubble in him. When i was moving him i could feel it inside him as well. I raised the temp and put salt in there.

I would fill a 5 gallon bucket with 4 tablespoons of epsom salt and put him in it for about 30 minutes. Then put him back in the qt tank with 1 tablespoon per 5 gallons. Sounds like he has bloat, constipated or just an air bubble. Either way, epsom salt is the way to treat

I've seen bloat i don't think he has that. I think it's either constipation or just an air bubble.

Mine had an air bubble I believe. He stuck himself under a pot and then a day later he was fine.

Is this mainly to treat the bloat or will it help with constipation and an air bubble?

Alright i put him in. He's still fighting so thats a good sign.

All jokes aside, he'll most likely fart it out soon enough.
There was an article in the Polypterus magazine here a while back about how quick and easy fish food can go off (especially Hikari) and it's known to cause gas.
The article reccomends not using Hikari carnivore or massivore that has been opened for more than a month!

I agree and I believe this is a gas pocket/air pocket. The epsom salt should just help speed up the process because it soaks into the skin

ok thanks guys lol it's really hard to laugh when you have a best friend (forever alone) dying right next to you in a tank but he seems to be getting better and able to catch his balance. And about the massivore i've never heard that lol i've been feeding them a huge bag of it for about 7 months........... didn't know it had an expiration date..... lol
