My current pond (4ft by 5ft by 2ft) is in the open under sun light all the time, there's no way i can build a shelter for it. Is there a way to get rid the green water and alge?

How about a UV light for the green water and some fish to snack off the algae that grows on the sides

Definitely get a UV light. In aide of that, some large trap door snails, and Chinese Hi Fin loaches will help, as will some plecos.

Mind you, the plecos can't live in the pond in the cold times, and they will get huge, and produce a lot of waste.

I don't really know what is chinese Hi fin loaches in my country. is it orange with black strips? any other fish to recommend that eats algae ?

$80 too steep? Your gonna have to nut up if you want clear water. Only cheap solution (that i know of) is algae killer chemical, but ive heard a lot of people say if your using enough to to kill algae its going to kill your fish too.

There may be a cheaper solution out there, but im no expert on the subject. I just know thats what i did. Just search ebay for UV pond filters. Keep in mind you need a bump too. What are you using for a filter now?

edit: looking on ebay, $80 is about the cheapest

Not to be a downer but I spent $150 on a UV and haven't had clean water since I turned it on 3 months ago.... very disappointed.

On the UV not working you've got two possible problems, either the light is not high enough for the pond or your turn over rate is too slow/too fast.

You could in theory filter it out with a heavy matting but a UV is the best and only real way to go.

Edit: just thought of a third reason, could be drawing it from the wrong part of the pond, algae lives in the upper third generally in the pond environment.
