can someone tell me why the leaves of my anubia are turning black? are my lights too strong? or are they getting too much direct light? nutes?

55g, flourish excel and kent freshwater plant food, ph 6.8ish, 78 degrees, lights turn on for 9.5 hours a day. substrate is a combo of flourite and eco-complete.. (but the anubias are not planted into the soil)

Could be algae .

Anubias
Plants are a slow growing plant and Perfer low light and do best in low light so if your tank as a high powered light Algae is very likely to grow on the leaves of the Anubias speices as it is a very slow growing plant .

I did myself have a large group of diffrent types in a tank afew years bak in high lighted tank and all started to grow a dark brown/ black algea but if you find it quick enough just rub it off with your hands of maybe you could take out the plants and use a cloth to clean the leaves .

Maybe try and lower the light in your tank or try and shelter the Anubias with some other taller thinker leaveed plants or a peice of wood . :D

Pictures could help even more if it is not what i have said/ suggested . :)

i had the same thing happen to mine. i just gave up an got some faster growing easy plants. problem solved.
