Just need some input from you guys.. I think my firt 2 (out of 3) Armatus will be arriving on Mon. if everything goes ok. My question.. Should I stick these guys straight into the 220?? There will be nothing in there to bother them. They are only 3-4 " long. I am just a little scared of them eating. May be hard to get them to eat in a vast tank like that??
The third I have coming in soon. I thought to put him in a 20L with plenty of air..Any ideas?? I know they will get aggressive torwards one another, but at 3-4" I should be ok with a 220 for a little while until my 8ft. and 10ft. tank is ready.
I sound kind of newb, but I get like this when I am dealing with a species I have never kept before........ Besides the fact that they are a living organism and I am damn good at not losing anything I have ever kept and do not want to start now THEY ARE A FEW HUNDRED DOLLARS!!! LOL, I will have a heart attack if they die. Please guys help calm my nerves....

you should acclimate them first of all things, after seeing if they are alive upopn arrival.
Then you should slowly introduce them in the tank, and watch them for fighting etc.. and try feeding..

I would put them in smaller tanks to start out. If you have them?

Like BigJ said start them in a smaller tank, this will allow them to find there food easier and acclimate to a new environment easier also.

:iagree:

Hmmm, I guess I might grab a 20 Gal long after all then... N, I do not have one set up. I was thinking a 20L with an HOB rated 4X bigger with an airstaone. Take some substrate from the 220 along with some bio media from the FX5 and maybe a couple bioballs from the wet dry. Stick one in the 20L and the other 2 in the 220.......??
Of course I know they need to be acclimated first. Ia m just wondering the best thing to do after that.............

That sounds ok... The only reason i like to keep small rare expensive fish in smaller tanks is because you can keep a closer eye on them watch them eat ect. Also i just think it's easier to get them eating on the Armatus I assume you will have to start them on live guppies or rossies? And they will have a very hard time catching them in a monster tank. Also with Guppies in a tank like that i'm sure you have massive filteration and it will kill/suck up them guppies and could cause some problems. And also if they come in and for example some of them are sick or what ever the case may be you will not want to keep them together i'm sure? If i were you i would pick up a few 10 gallon tanks and start them off in that. I do that with all my shipped in fish because it's no fun treating a bigtank!! This is just my Opinion! In the end there your fish and you should do what you feel is right! Good luck with them... Throw some Pic's up when you get the chance..... Jeff

Thx BigJ. I just got back from getting a 20L with a penguin 200, an airstone (even though I hate bubbles), a couple fake plants (for security), a little 100 Watt heater, and a hood. I also picked up a pretty serious powerhead for the 220.
Yeah, the guppies do not last long in the 200. They stay at the top and a lot get sucked in. Thats why I was scared about keeping them in there. From what I gather they are "mid water" fish. I will feel more secure with them in the 20L...

Think I can keep 2 ....3-4"ers in a 20L?? Or should I just keep one in there and put the other 2 in the 220 and hope for the best? I have a little 10 Gal. hospital tank... Thats about it.

Ya bro maybe put 2 in the 20L and 1 in the 10. Just to start with. Just keep an eye on them. I would keep the smallest one alone. jmo ;)

I hate spending a lot of cash on someting I know I will only use for a couple months :(....Also I guss I will take a couple bioballs and a peice of the filter pad from the 220s wet dry. Should I go ahead and stick a small fish in the 20L?? Thinking there really isn't enough time to fully cycle it. Maybe it would be better to just leave him in there....
Just caught your post. Thx for the help man. Like I said before I get a little stressed with something exotic I haven't kept before!!! I just pray the aggression will be ok. 3-4"s I would think would be fine together, but I have no idea how they are soooo... I guess we will find out.Thx again for your help. I will probably post 100x more till I know they are ok :)
