  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Sorry to hear of your loss.
Why did you say you didnt want to try crickets or mealworms?

When i first got my rtg he wouldnt eat for a month but i was told to try crickets and he soon started eating them and was soon eating mealworms too.

Dont let this put you off, everyone has problems from time to time.

Go for it.

Cheers steve

i have flushed out all the water and is setting up the tank and cycling it! my girlfriend's telling me to try again.. but i'm not even sure!
I sux alot..!

And why didn't i try those crickets and meal worms? well.. i just hate insects ALOT, and if he doesn't eat it, I would hate to fish it out!

He did eat dried blood worms for a little bit... most of the food he spat it back out at the beginning.... could it be that he wuz actually having internal disease?

mate, next time just get one that is already eating hikari foodsticks, thats the best thing to have them eating in my opinion.

later down the line my mates generally switch to a particular brand of cat/dog dry food and feed them that when they are like 2' plus and thats what the aros/rtc get fed.

wish you the best of luck and dont give up

sometimes our fish are just sick and there is nothing we can do.....You tried. Try again!

i have had 2 silvers die untill i learnt what i was doing wrong. sad story bt hey - you learn

when you intro the fish, dont feed first.
i believe that shrimp stuffed with pellets is best. or if you are lucky enough for your aro to ravage pellets like hikari aro sticks like cichlids - then go for that!

when you buy a silver here are some tips:
during shipment, they get stressed, sometimes they get knocked around and literally they get f8cked! AND WILL NEVER BE THE SAME>

tips:
watch the fish swim, then move closer t the tank..... if the fish keeps to what its doing, then you have a non skittish fish, healthy most likely

then put your hand over the tank, see if it gets interested... means its hungry and has a healthy appetite - or see if you can spot a bulge in its belly meaning it ate lots recently.

If the fish hides, jumps, swims away and stuff - stay away.
go for the silver aro that will wait under your hand and go for ANYTHING that enters the water.
Where youare from, i dont believe you have a restricted fish list - silver aros should be very readily available.

also
when you are buying a fish - ask the pet shop attendant what they are feeding and ask them to PROVE it by shwing you....
some will say "oh yeah, we feed pellets" but the as8holes actually feedit worms and live food and the thing wont touch anything thats dead....

that sucks!

an aro that eats anything is a good aro. if it doesnt then find smething good for it to eat...
i feed mine stuffed shrimp with hikari aro sticks - with shell on. No head.... the shell is good for them. baby aros should have no shll! anything under 6 to 8 inches be weary of the shell on shrimps.

garlic is a good appetite stimulant.

Soak some Hikari Food Sticks in Garlic Guard. BTW, my aro hates pellets, but if i soak them in garlic until soft, he'll eat them.

He scarfs down Hikari Sticks though. They get soft really quickly but stay affloat and when he wouldnt eat, he took those right away.

i got mine on thursday night
he grabbed a freez dried shrimp this mornin
but thats the most intrest hes shown in food so far

my jd loved em tho

I dont think it died because it didnt eat. It was probably too stressed by the new environment and it was compounded by the ick. Water paramters got changed alot too. Im sorry for your loss.
