why is my arowana laying at the bottom of the tank, it seems lethargic plus it's mouth isn't closed all the way. Please advise!

Test the water for Ph, Ammonia, Nitrite and Nitrate and increase the surface agitation..then report back with the results

Also do a water change of 25%

ok so i did a ph and ammonia check since i only have those two, the ph was very bad at 7.6 while the ammonia was excellent so i corrected by putting in the proper ph6.5 powder, so instead of being lethargic on the bottom it has risen to the middle of the tank, but its just chilling in one spot looking out into the room, it doesn't seem to be in stress or hurt though, :screwy:

What makes you think a pH level of 7.6 is bad? What's bad is subjecting your aro to a large pH swing as you did. What exactly is the ammonia level in your tank, you may not know what good is?

What most likely happened is your aro jumped and injured itself and just needs some time to get right.

If your water is correct then no worries...
sometimes they'll just bow up and chill on the bottom...

the first time I seen one of mine do that, I freeked out and started changing water testing over and over getting the same desired results...
sometimes they just do that...
just keep an eye on him and he'll start cruzing the top again...

He must be in with other tankmates too huh?...Mine was like 6-8" when he chilled a couple different days a week for a month or so...

Here's what you need to do..

1. Take picture of the tank and the fish in need.
2. Give us information the size of your tank, the tankmates and how big are these arowana.
3. post pictures, add them to your MFK album.. and then hot link them to this post..

I can say.. 7.6ph is rather normal.. but that isnt the issue.. the REAL issue is how big is your tank.. compare to how many arowana you got...

It come be aggression.. Sitting on the bottom means its stress or tank is too small for two arowana to swim.. thus causing one arowana to be show aggression towards the other. The reason for this is because arowana are consistent swimmers.. and if tank is small.. it will result in one individual to hide.

Your silver aro is being tormented by the jardini, you will need to separate them soon as possible.

you think so? i thought it was the other way around, in my viewing times I have never seen the Jardini aggressive to all the other fish if not bothering the arowana. I guess it might be tormenting the arowana when I'm not present?
