Smacked into the glass and screwed up its mouth...common for them. Sometimes they end up killing themselves jumping into the glass...Not really much you can do.
Thinking that you would grow this guy out and sell him at a profit is kinda funny. Most people want to grow thier fish themselves and not take on somebody elses 18-24". I grew mine to 24" and ended up having to GIVE him away....nobody wanted it. The only reason I got rid of it was because every time I opened the lid of the tank he went airborne...the last time he did it he hit the ceiling, so it was time for him to go to a new home.
how high is your ceiling ?
or was that just a metaphor or whatever you call it (i suck at english )

surface of my tank is 4' from the ceiling. He jumped out MANY times...when I was doing water changes or feeding...as soon as I looked away he would fly. I think he thought he was a bird! When they get big, they are VERY powerful.

I was just thinking like sell it back for $30 of store credit or somethin nothin big. I thought they'd at least appreciate a little I guess not. Either way I get to raise one.
Hitting the ceiling...thats crazy. I'm not surprised tho after seein them on Planet Earth or somethin jumpin even higher than that to catch dragonflies.

^.....

sorry to hear. hopefully the next one you get will behave and so will you wanting to grow it for yourself and not for the LFS.

Everything appreciates with size, regardless of if it was a growout tank or not...people do buy larger fish, not Everyone likes to grow their own fish out, some people would rather not waste the time, and just get the fish they want..

If they didn't appreciate why doesnt a 24" Arowana sell for 40$ at the LFS....because its taken time and money to get it there...the 40$ arowana are usually little babies.. and the ones around me at least for a 12" or more, are in the upper 80-100 range

So yes Every fish does appreciate in price with growth, i'm sorry to see that yours had an unfortunate event...and i hope it fixes itself..
