I need help like now. I am freaking out. I have no idea what is going on. I had 11 kigomas 1 came from the lfs and 10 came from a guy who is a breeder. I sent him an e-mail as well but want to post here also.

I have lost 6 of my frontosas and 1 is missing. One went poof dont know what happened to, and the missing 1 I think went poof aswell. The other 5 that died, 1 went almost a week ago, 3 went a a few days ago and one today. I thought it might be the tank they were in so I took my larger fronts to the lfs and moved the others into the 150 gal. They are still dying. I am freaking out. I have no idea what it could be. Water param's are Nitrate: 5ppm Nitrite and Ammonia: 0ppm and pH is 8.0ish. The tank mates are a syno cat and cyprichromis who are larger then them. The syno cat does not bother them and couldnt fit one in its mouth, the cyp chills at the top and doesnt bother anyone. The dead fish show no signs of being beaten up or fin nip or anything. I dont see anyworms when they poop or in the tank. There poop looks fine. They eat fine - they eat nls sinking pellets, brine shrimp and krill aslo sinking. They dont show signs of any disease or anything. The fish that were in the 150 before never ever had a problem. I dont keep or use chemicals near the tanks either. The fish also color up nicely no signs of stress. I am really confused by this and I dont want to lose what I do have left. The sand is sifted so I dont think that would be it either. The tank mates in the tank are doing fine and have been for the last few years. This is driving me crazy anyone have any ideas???? Help me please!!!:confused::confused::confused:

Hmmm...The only other thing I can think of is acclimation. Are the water conditions of the breeder and the LFS different from yours in terms of pH and hardness levels? Drip acclimation will prevent this issue.

There is a difference in our water pH but not by much (both breeder and pet shop) other params I am not sure. I did not drip acclimate but I did acclimate them just not dripping. I just added a little water let it sit for awhile added a little more and did that for awhile. Would do it that way over drip acclimating make a big difference? If so would it be something that could effect it 2-3 months later?

What about the heater? Is it cracked or anything?

Whats your filtration like?

Filtration on the old tank was a sump and a big hang on the back something or another that everyone says to get.

On the big tank its an Ehiem canister filter dont remeber the model.

The heaters are fine and temp. is the same as its always been. The thing is the tank mates they have been with in both tanks are perfectly fine. They are the only ones that keep dying off. I had them in the one tank and they died, moved them to another and they are still dying off.

Whens the last time you checked the filter?

Perhaps there is something in their causing your problems?

The stuff that comes with a sump I only know one way to set it up a pad and bio balls. A filter has a filter cartirgde and the canister has the pads and the ball/bead things that looks like dog food or something. One has a hole in the middle and one doesnt. I dont think the filters are the problem though the other fish are fine and the same filters are on the same tanks my fish are in. They died in the small tank so I moved them to the big tank. Same filter no difference and my other fish are now in that tank and they are fine. Same thing with the larger tank my Syno cat and cyp are still in that tank and are fine and have been with the filter for over a year. Yes I have cleaned the filters but not the same time I clean tanks I switch.

Must be a Frontosa specific ailment. We are still in the dark ages of fish keeping and sometimes we are reminded to that fact.

Sorry for the fish, Ash...
