My favorite datnoid, of all my dats... this sucks...

My fat AT datnoid has been on its side for two days. He is alive and breathing but it is a bit heavier than normal.

Came back from work last Friday and he was already at the bottom of the tank.

I lowered the temperature in the main tank assuming its too warm. I also did a 50% water change on the tank Friday night and that didn't help either. I also held my AT by the powerhead for about an hour on Friday afternoon.

I already transferred him this morning in the QT tank and doused it with melafix and salt. Now I''m just waiting for progress or its eventual demise. I am starting to increase the tanks temperature as we "speak."

Anyone got advice on what else I can do to prevent its death?

^Thanks. I also have an airline to it as well.

I was told that my ATs condition can be due to swim bladder. From what I've read though, swim bladder causes a fish to lie vertically with its head towards the bottom. My AT is lying on its side.

I also know that it wants to live and it has its will because it has been flapping its left and right fins. Its just that he can't set himself horizontally again. He has no ripped fins. In the greatest shape out of all my fish. Fat as a pig and eating as one until last Friday.

Anyone knows how to treat swim bladder? I might as well try the solution to that since what I have been doing doesn't seem to work.

I've heard of everything from feeding your fish warm peas to manually 'fixing' with a syringe. I don't know if there is much else you can do. Hopefully it's bacterial and the melafix solution will help.
How old is the fish?

I've had the fish for 15 months.

Anyone? I am starting to feel sorry for my fat guy. He's still persistent in trying to be "upright." He is still strong but he can't seem to bring himself upright. He is constantly trying to bring himself up but to no avail. He pushes himself with the fin that he is lying on.

Its such a sad sight to see. He is not yet done though, he still has a lot of life left in him but he just can't bring himself up...

I'm on my second day of Melafix. He is in my 10 gallon QT tank. I have already doused the tank with 2 tbsp, 1 for yesterday and one for today. I will probably do 25% water change tomorrow and see how it works out.

Hang in there fatso! don't give up man!

Well he's still alive, still has a lot of energy after 8 days. What else can I do to help him? He's still lying on his side. He's still fighting that's for sure.

if its fighting then its a good sign, when any of the datnoids i have had that died like this with lying down they lasted no more than a day at most.
moved to datnoids.
