I came home tonight to my male balzanii struggling to stay upright. For the most part he is swimming/floating upside down. He is breathing more rapidly than normal, but still seems to have a lot of energy by how hard he is fighting to right himself.

What could have caused this and is there anything I can do?

so it has always been 80? Did you do anything new to the tank lately?

is it being bullied by other fish?

need more info than just it's floating :(....whatever you can provide...

Temp has been constant. I added some fish about a week ago that had a minor case of HITH so I treated with Jungle Labs Hole-N-Head guard according to the instructions (treat with 25% water change every other day three times - last treatment was Wednesday) I haven't seen it get bullied.

yeah its very rare for HITH to be caused by disease/parasite (not sure which it is that can sometimes cause HITH) probably about 95% of HITH cases is due to them having been housed in poor water conditions so best way to treat is to feed good varied diet and keep water clean, try to position him with something that will keep him upright that will be the best chance he has if you have to, net him and put him in bucket with airstone with him situated up right until he seems to be able to control his position more
