When the foam doesn't level out the tank, think it through and figure out why. Then come back here and tell everyone why foam can not possibly level out a tank. (There are two independent reasons why.)

It's 1/2" off level? That's too much in my opinion and as a few of the others said-foam won't "level" a tank. It's used for a minor inconsistency of 1/8" or less. The pink foam is what I use, too. But I get the tank/stand 100% level 1st. Use shims, cardboard, whatever under the stand to level it front to back and end to end. And use a good 4' level.
No if you proceed to local lumber yard you can purchase cedar shims for just a few bucks a shot per package size. They are tapered from one end to the other and com in various sizes typically thick end is roughly 3/8 of an inch although can accomplish greater hieghts by over lapping 2 pieces by putting both beveled ends on top of one another and then sliding over each other till you gain necessary height.
Cardboard strips work just as well. We used shims on the 8' tank but have used cardboard on all the others. I like cardboard better mainly because in my mind there's no "points of pressure". Just evened out pressure all along the strip of cardboard. More info than anyone wanted, I'm sure.
