Help best animal for algae control

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
What is the tank size? If it's small then try a bristlenose pleco. Sorry but I had to suggest a pleco because no other animal has done as good of a job as my bristlenose.

Dude, any animal that eats algae will sh** it out again. Then new algae will thrive on these nuteients..

i had a similar problem my common pleco wasn't doing anything so i ask the guy at the lfs and he recomended a gibbiceps pleco and it eats all the algae

Fishkeepers are the best algae control to be honest...

I find plecos are absolute crap factories and cause more problems than they solve and ottos are too small to take care of large predatory tanks...

Just my 0.2 cents...

Is your aquarium near a window? Are you over feeding? Have you tested your water? What is the temp like? I would check all of those things before I added more fish. If everything is correct, Otocinclus can do a great job, but they're also going to add to your bio load. They eat a ton of algae, too, and I've heard of people starving them by having too many because they're so small, and they didn't understand just how much they eat.
I have a 55 that is fairly close to natural light. It grows algae as a result. I just clean the glass when I do water changes every week.

Ive had chinese algae eaters do a really good job, but can get aggressive. Luckily my old lfs always bought them back when they got old and id start small again
