so my male umbees in a 8'x30" 240 gallon and hes about 10" and im on my second female ive introduced and he seems to like her but will chase her around the tank like a madman if i pull the divider. he killed his last female by digging under the divider while i was at work and he just seems relentless. any tips with breeding crazy umbees and if i have to keep them divided will they spawn through the divider? theyre both really interested but if i pull the divider hell play fine for a couple minutes then just go crazy. thanks:)

Do you have any other fish in the tank that they can team up and take aggression out on? So it's not just him on her.

larger dovii, black nasty , larger red devil , trimacs , jaguars lol stuff like that

Terrible idea.

Add some large silver dollars, or convicts or cutteri types. You want cheap hardy fish, but you don't want them to get large or as aggressive as the umbee.

Try changing the divider and give the male the small size for a month. Then put together a cave just for the female and a slab of concrete or rock at an angle to spawn on. Maybe two caves just in case the male gets into the first one. After a 2-4 weeks the female should be comfortable and confident enough to defend her territory and know where her safe spots are to go when the male is too rough. Once that's established your free to start pulling the divider only while supervising them of course LOL.

I disagree with using dithers for umbees... They'll make short work of them. I've tried on many occasions. Another option is making a trapped door in the divider like I had for the general and I can explain that later if I need too. Good luck.
