i bought this strange black catfish. they had no idea what it was and sold it to me as a channel cat but its definitely not.

it stays upside down, is jet black, and closely resembles an asian redtail catfish like the one pictured below. i shouldve snapped a picture but he is chilling under a piece of slate in the dark now.

If it's upside down, it's a synodontis of some sort. Liveaquaria has an article on them.

ok well i found a picture of it, defnitely not a synodontis. too long body shape, almost like a shovelnose cat. anyhow its a Mystus Leucophasis!

and its a very rare and expensive according to the site!!!! :nilly:

i bought it for 3.99 because no one in the store knew what it was!

Red tail?

it doesnt have a red tail. that was just the most similar fish off the top of my head. still really excited about him. almost didnt get it because i thought the white flecks on its side were ich. after examining it pretty hard i decided it wasnt and now from the pics online i see its just coloration.

Sounds like it's an Asian Upside Down Catfish (Mystus Leucophasis)
