Sounds like it's an Asian Upside Down Catfish (Mystus Leucophasis)

it is.

this puppy is gonna get big. i suspected he would when i bought him, i think he will be alright in a 55 for the time being until i find a larger tank on craigslist this summer. kind of worried about my emperor loach being small enough for him to eat. otherwise he fits the tank just fine

I wouldnt worry about it eating your fish. I had one at 9" and it never went after smaller fish. Thats not to say your's wont but i doubt it will. Your fish will be fine in a 55 for quite a while. These only grow to a foot, so a 75 would be good for life.
