I will get pictures on this tomorrow.

25% water changes done 5 days ago.

But today i wake up to my piranhas water being cloudy, a film on top of the water, and my piranhas had puked up all the food they were feed 3 days ago. The Adult Piranhas all have swollen lower lips/Jaw.

i feed them chicken that i also ate that night(yes i feed it to them raw).

The Tank:

125 gallon
Fluval 405
Hydor Koralia 3 Powerhead 850 gph

4 Adult P's ---> now 3 :( ... well the big guy is in a separate tank he wont make it through the night.
5 baby P's Separated in the tank

Getting the water tested tomorrow morning at my local pet shop.

Any Ideas on problem...I'm thinking ammonia Spike or my tank is cycling again for some reason ... its been running for 2 months now with no problems at all.

did you leave uneaten food in the tank??

I would do some water changes and hope for the best. Chicken isn't the best diet for these guys either. Pick yourself up a liquid teset kit while you are there too so you don't have to worry about getting it tested at a pet store.

it could be your gravel, id remove alot of it and leave enough just so it barely covers the bottom, or just just switch it out and a light layer of sand will do.

Hi.

It is quite odd dude, I don't really know what could it be happening with your water, if it were ammonia pike you could probably get the conditions better with a partial WC, hasnt it improved the situation???.

What is the condition of your biomedia?.

Have you changed the biomedia recently?.

What things have you done to your tank/filter recently?

Is there any possibility that someone in your house is throwing some kind of toxic substance to your tank?.

sounds like a bacterial bloom. Could be due to lots of factors. I wish you had pictures of the film on the water because it could be a biofilm formation which would make it likely Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Something is unbalanced in your tank. If you leave food I would take it out and start doing massive water changes. You may have done something to break your cycle too. Also chicken is full of phosphates (PO4) which can directly impact the size of a bacterial population, but is not tested for by standard kits. Do you have a microscope? Can you do a gram stain? Did you dechlor that last 25% PWC? If it is something microbial in origin then you should turn you tank heater down as low as the fish will tolerate, it may slow the growth of the bacteria, but you'll need to treat your tank with antibiotics. Hence the need for a gram stain. Some antibiotics are for gram negative bacteria (like Pseudomonas aeruginosa) some are for gram positive organisms. Using the wrong antibiotic will just make things worse. The chicken may have been covered in bacteria. You cooked the chicken you ate, which killed the bacteria, but you fed it raw to the fish who, along with the tank, now have food poisoning.

Be careful doing water changes, it could make you sick depending on what is in that tank. Pseudomonas aeruginosa is an opportunistic pathogen in humans. Wear gloves, don't get any in your mouth etc and so forth. If it's not Pseudomonas aeruginosa its probably Salmonella spp. Both are bad for you and your fish.

bottom line, this could be really really bad....

no food left in tank...except for when i woke up and food was everywhere from them puking it up

there is about a 1/2 in of gravel spread throughout the whole tank...and yes sand is a future switch for sure

media was changed 2 weeks ago this previous sunday

No recent additions or changes to tank...just woke up to disaster

going now to get water checked

let us know what happens? good choice man gravel doesnt compare to sand ,sand looks so much more natural. and doesnt collect junk. keep us posted

did you leave any of the old media in the filters or did you completely clean it out? could have killed you bb and caused your tank to recycle

sounds like its teh chicken not positive about ti though
if they puked it it means it made them sick and had to bring it out and that may have caused the water to be cloudy

you may try putting the thread in the fw disease section may get more info about it

also did you use old aquarium water to clean youre media??
