Help creating a spavac for aquarium maintenance please ?!

I like Joe's method.

The other Joe from years ago had another great idea. Use a small pump that was plumbed with a hose to a water filter that had a 1 micron filter in it.

Another method that I use for my saltwater tanks is to take a seven inch filter sock and cut a hole for it in a bucket lid. Then put the lid and sock on a five gallon bucket and then syphon as usual. When you are done, remove the lid and sock and pour the water back in the tank.

By the way, I've used spa vac's before. They are a pain in the butt to control. One hand has to pull while the other has to remain stationary while also pushing. Then while doing all of that, you also have to orchestrate useful movement in the end of the vac. In a spa or pool, you don't have to worry about sucking up substrate.
