Would it be healthy to just put medication in the tank to avoid gill parasites even though you aren't sure they any fish are infected?

I did that after getting my ntt, I put some coppersafe in the tank and he is doing fine.

This is not true. I have dats that live in full fresh water and they do just fine. I have had them for a year so far with no problems whatsoever

I'm pretty sure he means coral to get the Ph higher, and the salt to treat the parasite.[/QUOTE

Salt - yes
med - yes
wc - yes

but I would not mess with ph, yes , tigers like harder water than soft, bur if u mess with ph and get it wrong= could be disaster....

Hope the ntt survives.

Thanks for the help everyone - concerning the meds I was hesitant to medicate the main tank because of the sun cat (scaleless fish as far as I know, and copper, do not mix) and because in general it's (once again, afaik) a bad idea to medicate other fish for no reason. I moved him to a temp. hospital tank with a higher concentration of salt and copper sulfate and he seems to be doing better, but it still looks bad.

Should be fine. When my NTT showed signs of gill flukes in the past, I blasted my whole tank with medication. Worms / gill flukes do not just exist in the fish gills, it will be present in all the water as well, so better to be safe than sorry.

Flukes can be in your fish's gills for a long time before any sign is given. And once it is in your tank it can stay in there for a long time.

I am using coppersafe in my 120g from having 5 deaths in a tank(all were breathing heavily 4 appeared to have pop eye also)and I have a gold nugget and a royal plecostumous and both are fine. Small dotted gold nuggets are very fragile and I dosed the tank without taking him out.
