Ive got an african cichlid which has developed a large hole on its side. It is a HUGE crater. This fish is still small about an inch to 1.5, the hole is about the size of a pencil eraser. It looks likes something inside its stomach exploded. Ive been lucky and never had ick in my tanks but this doesnt look like it, as its one large white crater not spots.

Please help.

I forgot to mention I am on the 5th day of Melafix treatment and it hasnt helped.

This sounds like either furuculosis or like hole in the side disease (Pseudomonas), if the ulcer was preceded by a reddish pimle or boil it would be furunculosis and is treated with Furazolidone. Other wise treat with Kanamycin or neomycin. If you can't find those try binox or a combo of maracyn and maracyn 2. Act quickly and treat the entire tank.

Thanks

ill be researching the disease and trying to find that medication. thanks again
