I only have one IT in my tank with bichirs. I notice he turns completely horizontal to do a quick rub on his body on the driftwood. From my experience this is a trait for fish with ick, to relieve themselves by scratching that body part. I looked closer at him but I don't notice any signs of an ick outbreak, none at all.

Is this natural behavior? Any other reasons he could be doing this?

Since this is probably gonna come up, my water parameters are

Amm - 0
Nit - 0
Nitrate - 20

I would have posted this in the ER section but this question is more geared towards If Your Dats Exhibit This Behavior. thanks!

yea, its called flashing, my indos do it all the time..

or body flukes, or gill flukes... etc.. If they do it every now and than its fine but if they do it to much its a sighn of a disease.

I agree with Milk.

my tigers used to do it all the time since i have stopped feeding salty foods like prawn shrimp and mussel they have stopped flicking

mine just eat pellets and meal worms

flashing you guys say.. not to be rude or anything but maybe a more specific description of how often they should do it before it can be considered "dangerous"?.. my little microlepsis does this.. maybe.. once every 3 minutes while beeing actively watched but not very often at all when he doesn't know I'm watching him.. I was just about to start this thread when I stumbled upon it.. (he's just fine except for the flashing)

I would say 3 times a minutes is to much.

I agree with the above. Once in a while is nothing to worry about, but regularly is not good.

some dats I had in 1 specific tank use to do it to much for me to feel comfortable. I threw another filter on, and never saw them do it again.
