First serious Eheim problem in 12 yrs.

2028 pro II, 9 yrs? old, started rattling for up to an hour after servicing/cleaning.

Checked impellar and ceramic shaft, perfect, self priming feature was sticking, gave it a generous lubing, is easy and smooth now.

Still rattles up to an hour before running smoothly. Same result when primed manually, fill the filter up with tank water and siphone water through hoses.

I'm guessing there's air trapped in there some where, can't figure out how or why.

May buy a new impellar, $44.99 boxing week price, $54.99 reg. But if the impellar is faulty would it not be noisy non stop ?

Or should I just live with the start up noise ? Will this one hour rattling damage the impellar or magnet hole over time ?

Opinions please........:confused:

Edit; Up until now the 2028 would rattle/click for 2-6 seconds max and run smooth when re-started, first time every time.
 
Should have mentioned the ceramic shaft and rubber end caps where replaced approximately 2 years ago due to the original shaft/axel breaking.

Thanks for your quick replies, I think I'll take advantage of boxing week and just purchase a new impeller.

Hopefully it will correct the rattling, and if not it'll be on stand by.
 
I had the same issue and found it was trapped air. Now I keep maually priming it until it stops and normal flow starts. It only does it cause I have a UV sterilizer in line and it does not allow it to prime all the way.
 
last time I had this problem -- it was on an Eheim classic -- the problem was the bushing -- rubber caps -- on the impeller shaft

replaced the bushings, problem went away ...
