Help explain this DIY overflow?

I got it drilled, and I'm going to go look for that piece now.. I believe I saw it.
I placed the tee like that because I thought the water goes straight from the 90 into the tee, does the water actually go up towards the vent and then down to the tee?

I didn't want to take the chance so I put them the other way...

You the man Ruddybop!! Any suggestions on it, you are the master after all!

Also could I run spray bars?

Depends on what your return pump is. I am a fan of the Go as Big as you can type. If you share the sentiment I say go as big as you can afford on the return pump and run dual spray bars, One down by the substrate to stir up detritous, and one at the surface to create agitation.

You did not put any hole for air in the two end caps above the t's. Isn't that needed to retain water in system if tank level gets so low that air comes in. DCS
