Help..Extremely cloudy water

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Ok. The tank is fairly clean, (I vacuum Weekly). I did 3 water changes in a row, the first 2 were maybe 20-25 gals. the last one was 55-60Gals.. It was looking better yesterday, then today it went backwards. It's the cloudiest it's been. I need to get a new kit for checking perimeters( later this afternoon.) I will post them ASAP. The fish seem to be ok. Should I relocate the P Bass to another tank( it's a 55G) fish are 3-5 inches.)?

can't make any judgement until you do those water tests.. sounds like a bacteria bloom to me as well, which in that case, the idea is to not change the water. dirty water in this sense, cycles your tank, if you cleaned out too much of the beneficial bacteria

X2. I think you may have killed off some benificial bacteria and your tank is now cycling. You need to test the water to find out what parameters are out of whack.

Just test the water
PH is high 7.8 plus
Ammonia .25
Nitrates are good
Any thoughts?? Recommendations??

Thanks Guys..

i think you might of had a diatom bloom and you kinda freaked out and de-cycled your tank doing too much cleaning/water change. how old is your tank setup?

it's been 2 years and running with no problems.

Did you forget use de-chlorinated water to clean your filters etc?

.25 ammonia in a 2 year old tank is no good. Monitor that carefully, use Amquel(or products like that) if necessary.

No i didn't. I never had a problem with the water before. I will use something now.
