they were fine when i got home from school but then i feed them and they started to doing it agian. thanks for all the help

i just did my normal every other day water change of only about 1/5 of the water and they are doing the heavy breathing thing. they did eat and are as active as usual, but they are gulping. possibly the same thing
HAve any of your fish only breathed using one side of its gills?? my EBJD is right now and i need to help him!
this is scary, i have about $1000 worth of fish in the tank and they are all gulping. there is plenty of aeration and the parameters are all good. i tested everything. i fed too many blackworms today though. think that had anything to do with it? should i do a waterchange again?
I believe your problem is due to your water changing method.
The water running through pipes are not sufficiently aerated (especially during winter time when boiler water is mixed). Therefore, when you are doing water change, you want to make sure that the water hose is at the tank top to so that wave/splashing will be created as water is added. In addition, you want to make sure that the tap hose you are using has enough pressure to create a good amount of splash while water is being added into the tank.
I almost lost my jardini during my ignorant days. I put him into a tank that had 90% new water which had been slowly added without proper aeration.

just lost 2 dats doing the same thing after a wc earlier in the day. they ate some shrimp and was swimming like normal. then before I went to bed they were laying on the bottom gasping. Tried puting them in the QT but that didnt help. Also have lost 3 of my border botia... Did another small wc and it seems to have helped. Also put in enough prime for the tank instead of what was taken out.

i will heed this advice. i dont usually overfeed but the blackworms all fell out of the cup and it was too late. secondly, i usually do keep the cyphon head above the water, and this time i didnt. it never occurred to me that it is important to do that, i just did that because it pushed the new water all around the tank, i didnt know it was vital.
