HELP for a NEW guy!!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
You need a UV sterilizer or an ozone emitter. That is classic algae bloom and isnt harmful other than the potential bio-load it could impose. More frequent water changes and maybe less light exposure. A UV will have more benefit than just killing algae as will the ozone. Both are somewhat advanced water treatment options both well worth the investment long term.

setup a uv sterilizer on your tank and add some carbon to in your filter and that should solve your problem.

as for the red mites or w/e i would take them out and do a wc. also if you dont have a lid on your tank i would get one.

moving the tank away from direct sunlight will also help with the algae issues. i cant help you out with the mite or w/e problem though.

I know the tank is overstocked but dont think this will cause the water to go green.

you think wrong. algae grows because (among other things) there are nutrients in the water that will support it. since fish are a source of those nutrients, more fish=more nutrients=plant growth, in this case algae.
you can try adding other plants. something fast growing like a hornwort will use some of those nutes.
daphnia will eat it, but fish LOVE daphnia, so it's best to remove the fish before adding the daphnia.
as others said, lighting plays a part. reducing the amount, intensity and duration of your lighting (both natural and artificial) will help.
