noble ok
I have a 20" long giant gourami in a 70 gallon tank. Powerheads on undergravel - H.O.T. magnum and a Rena Filstar running underneath. Any obvious changes that are not too expensive that would help for general fish health? It is a 30 year old Osphrenymus Goramy? I think (don't know male or female) so must not do too bad, but am open to improvements, and positive ID for this fish!Photo-0017.jpg

That thing is ugly :)

Also if the fish is 20'' it needs a bigger tank then 18 wide that you have.

Get a new tank or get rid of him? Surely that's some help... By the way, Before you give him/her away, What is wrong with it?

That fish isnt long for this Earth so why not give it the best for its last days? Get it a 4x2x2(120) and it would be a huge improvement.
If a new tank isnt in the cards, give it the best food money can buy, and maybe a UV to protect from parasites.
I dont really understand what you want to hear. It has lived 30 years in cramped quarters and now at the end of its days it needs its health improved? Seems to be a rather sturdy fellow if you ask me, its just in a tank thats to small for it.

+1 to that
if cost is a concern try a stacked concrete blocks with pond liner option for getting large living quarters.
or a liner bag with Pvc pipe stand if temping.

that sux...!!!
This has gotta be a BS thread? No one would do this to a fish, or atleast no one on here. I call BS!!!

Thanks for the only constructive criticism. I have never had a source to ask till HERE to ask about a large fish for advice (ask pets mart? ya right). We did try a home built "safe" fish pond liner setup, but he is so twitchy, every time we approach the tank he freaks out (sides blocked?) He beat himself up so bad he was not going to live. Food suggestions? We feed him all kinds of green vegetables (no iceburg lettuce.) He won't eat pellets. Makes vitamins tough. There are no actual fish stores in oklahoma. What do ya do? Where can you best afford to get a bigger tank like a 4x2x2? Thanks for your help!
