Help for Giant Gourami

not sure where noble is but keep your eyes out on craigslist OKC, Dallas etc for a used tank. Is there an aquarium store locally that might be able to better house it? If not you should think about culling IMO

+1 on CL

This site is great to ask and learn, but you have to realize people will criticize, so just ignore what you consider to be non productive advice. It's amazing this fish is alive, many people would kill it and move on with cooler fish, but I am happy to say you stuck by this guys side, cheers on that my friend, try to get him on pellets, surely if u don't feed for a few days he will take it, or jam little pellets in the veggies! NLS and omega one are all awesome choices!

Quick note to this "thread?" - there is one pet store in Norman, OK called "Steve's Wet Pets" (great store) & I may be wrong (imagine that) but a minimum big enough tank there with nothing at all fancy would be at least $1500 and most were $2200 & up for a fish this size. Please some HELPFUL suggestions? Less pricey aquariums anywhere out there? Does anyone affordable ship aquariums? Also, as to 30 years of torture - don't you realize that these fish grow to their tank size in a short few years, so unless you keep them in a tank big enough for their full FOUR FOOT wild size, anyone with one at home is "Torturing" them, huh? So does anyone you know have one four feet long? If not, they're stunted & TORTURED?

Thanks! Your friendly comment popped up after my comment below. I did have him eating omega for a while. Just very picky & hard to keep on anything. Ya, I did look Craig's list, etc some but nothing in a reasonable drive. Wish I knew what that store used in Manitou Springs, Colorado to build their tanks with. They had some sort of an affordable poly resin they poured over heavy ply frames and just RTV & glassed the front as a window and filter box, etc. Cheap & worked. Even beefed a few old sturdy TV boxes back then & poly coateded & windowed them. Anyone have info on that processes material?

Hey! jerry
I will try to help , but be warned that I live half way across the world, recently i discovered that for me to even make a home water storage tank , glass is a much cheaper option than plywood or anything else ( wierd isn't it ?).

why don't your try a kiddo inflatable pool. OR
Pond liner bag suspended with PCV pipes OR
a plywood frame with dark colored pond liner as an indoor pond. ( if you are in a fix for filtration , pl try a big sponge filter and change water more often.)
A stable environment with dark bottom will comfort a skittish fish greatly.

A friend of mine has 2 albino versions of these in a huge 8X3X2.5 feet tank and these guys ended up in the cement well ring each when they broke Thru the 12mm glass of the tank ( out of jealously when some kids visited the home and the power unfortunately went off.these fish are grown on kitchen veggie scrap diet , 12+ years of age ).

Cheers up!!, lets try t o give the fish a better home and peace of mind in its old age!
you are in the rt place to seek help.!

That's a face only a mother could love. lol

I would keep an eye out in the classifieds for large used tanks. Other than that, the best you can do is do weekly 25% water changes. A fish that large creates a lot of waste and the more frequently you change his water out, the healthier he will be. If your tap water is treated with chlorine or chloramines, make sure you treat it with the appropriate amount of conditioner. Seachem Prime seems to be the product of choice on this site (I've used it for years with success).

Good luck...hope you are able to find it a larger home!
