help! gasping oscar

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I missed that part.

It could be pouting. My big oscar pouts all the time it seems.

Are the colors/feeding behavior normal?

(Also, I'd like to see a pic of that 20" oscar sometime)

was eating fine day before yesterday. everything else is fine. i can put my giant powerhead in but i really don't think it's an oxygen issue at all since nothing else is gasping or even seams to be labored. any meds to try? anything?

just noticed that he will vibrate his tail up and down every so often. exactly the way my old oscar was before he died...powerhead is in, still gasping.....anybody?

i wouldnt be throwing any meds in-we dont even know what the problem is. like everyone else has said, throw and airstone in there-a powerhead will move water, but it wont add 02 into the water column.

o2 is dissolved into water at the surface, airstones won't do any more than a lot of surface agitation will. I did all these things last year and still lost my old oscar. had 4 aistones, 2 powerheads. anyways, i've had my massive powerhead in all night and no change, still sitting gasping...anyone? i really don't wanna lose this fish.

How old is this oscar? It could be just its time. I have seen O's shake and shimmy all the time. Makes them look like they have a cold or something.

well oscar is no mas...he was only 3 years roughly. went out the same way as the old one, freaked out and smashed into the lid a few times real hard then was gone...really weird. gonna get a sterilizer before adding anything else.

oh yeah, everything else was fine last year and this time too. makes no sense to me. guess that's part of the hobby....still frustrating
