You could use a potassium permanginate dip but it is hard on BB so I wouldn't use it in the tank.

If I had to choose between amoxicillin or doxycycline I would try doxycycline it's similar to Tetracycline in it's function, it is effective against gram positive and negative bacteria so you will need to keep and eye on your water prameters. I have never used either one on fish so I can not vouch for how effective it will be or give you much help with it. It is well absorbed so it may be effective just be carefull with dosage. The only guid line I can give you is the doasge for tetracycline which is 250- 500 mg per 20 gallons of water (I would start with the lower dosage). Every 48 hours (24 hours for severe issues) with a 25% water change before each treatment. Tetracycline is ineffective in a ph above 7.5. Again I never used it so I can take no credit or responsability for your results with it.

If I was going to make a potassium permanginate dip, what dose should I use?

I read somewhere that I should:

"Use 1g to 1 litre to create a solution.

Then get a bucket, add 5l of tank water and 250ml of the potassium solution and mix.

Catch the fish and drop them one by one into the bucket and let them sit in there for 10 minutes.

After 10 mins get the fish out and drop back into the main tank and drop the next fish into the bucket.

Repeat until all fish are bathed"

Is this correct? How does pp work? What does it do?

I have friends that swear by it for everything! He dips his fish once a month

Potassium permanginate is an oxidizing agent, here is more information on how to use it: http://edis.ifas.ufl.edu/pdffiles/VM/VM03700.pdf

Thanx for that, according to my calcs, and that table I would be using a 50mg/l sheet term bath.

All other things regarding the Midas well be in Midas thread.

This is now an RIP. My big boy is gone.

I have to let you know I pulled the gt, his face opened up completely today, I put him to sleep with clove oil and vodka.

I am so gutted...I can't tell you.he was the nicest colored fish I had.

Metro seemed to have zero effect...could this have been something else other than hex?

I'm really sorry I couldn't help you save him he was a great looking fish. It's possible he was fighting two seperate issues. I saw no other outward signs that would lead be to think he was but pictures don't always tell the whole story. I thought the combination of 3X sulfa and the Metro would help if somthing else was going on. Since the sulfa didn't work on the Midas I suggested a switch of meds but it was obviously too late. The PP will help with any surface conditions bacterial or fungal it will not help if the issue is systemic. If the fish seems better after the bath you must still keep an eye on it so you make sure you didn't just cure the symptom and leave the underlying cause behind. You need to have a good gram negative or a broad spectrum antibiotic that leans more to the negative spectrum on hand or available just in case. All the advise I've given you so far was based on what you had available to you. Somtimes working within those confines the correct med isn't available and all we are doing in that case is prolonging the enevitable. After this post we will switch to the Midas thread.

No one is to blame other than me. If I had all the canisters working together there would have been no problem.

My 2080 died, and I obviously didn't do enough water changes and my gt got infected.

I now have 2 2262 running on the tank, one stocked with 12l matrix and aquaclay, the other has 12l marine pure 1.5 inch spheres...but this one only went live 3 days ago.

The shop I get the 2080 from ran out and didn't get a replacement for 3 weeks...

I could blame anyone but ultimately it is my fault...I should have bought another canister asap
