I have 5 adult stingrays in a 300gal tub and for some reason the waters always brown. I had 2 fx5 running with fluval prefilters and just switched it today to scrubbies. I also do a weekly water change of about 20% and feed once a day. Could it be to much waste not enough filtration? Thanks for anyinfos

Pictures not working, but do you have the tank by sunlight? Probably not enough info there bro. But by switching the media all of a sudden I hope the scrubbies were already packed with bio bacteria before you did the switch over. Any pictures of the gang?

Ill try to get some pictures up but no sunlight just in a dark room. The scrubbies are brand new but i still have a tray full of old bio media running.

If you only left one tray with old media and replaced all of the other ones. That is not enough for 5 adult rays. Have you checked the ammonia?

Would it help if i put my old media witch are prefilters into a rubbermaid and put it inside of my tub? Its still pretty wet so im sure there still bacteria on it. Also would you recommend a water change? Thanks for any infos

That would help a little , but not much just because the water wouldn't be flowing over them like in a filter. Test the ammonia first. If ammonia is present. Yes a wc will help.

Putting the old media back is probably too late as it starts to die off in around an hour of being out of its normal environment.

If the water is brown then it is probably dirty and needs more water changes, if it is green then it is too much light, dissolved organics / Nitrate.

1) Follow the advice already seen in this email
2) Testl water parameters and report back Ammonia, PH, Nitrite and Nitrate.
3) Keep up some large water changes

If Green and Nitrates low then you could add a UV clarifier.

It does sound under filtered and it also sounds that the media is poor quality and not mature.

It also depends on which species of stingray, since the adult sizes are somewhat variable. I would think you probably need to be doing more than just 20% wc per week. I would up that to 40% at least, or else make them more frequent, like every 4 days.
