Help growth on flowerhorm fin

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
are you sure he told you to put iodine? or did he tell you to put salt? If he said salt, he was referring to sodium chloride, not table salt. Iodine is not good for living fish. It's mainly used for salt water inverts and corals. And if he did in fact suggest iodine, he should have told you to dip it, not add it to your actual tank. Try taking better photos, dark room with aquarium light. Is the rot getting worse?

Okay, I just read your other post, sorry didn't see it there. Iodine, can be toxic to fish, if you wanted to clean and help create antibodies, you should have used a antibiotic like fish mox to prevent infection, or bacteria growth. What "Iodine" did you use? On the bright side, your fish looks healthy. His fin will grow back like the other guy stated. My first guess when i responded to your post was anchor worm, but it did look like ray damage. My fish didn't have the red like yours though, it was more of a skin bump.

forgot to add, put melafix also if you can and test your water please. nitrates and ammonias can create burns in your fishes slimecoat. Do those water changes that others suggested to you on a regular.

This is and excelent tutorial on the treatment of wounds on fish which includes the use of iodine. I have been treating open wounds this way for years, fortunatly it doesn't happen often but if and when it does it is good to know how to deal with it. If you read the whole thread the OP posted in the Freshwater Disease & Heatlt Issues section you will see why I suggested trying it (Iodin) as a way to help diagnose the issue.

Iodine can be used, but I'm more concerned on how he applied it. I still wouldn't use it on fish, peroxide on the other hand, I've seen used on multiple occasions. Keep us updated scandel.

Well my flowerhorn is doing well now after the iodine treatment. The open sore is healing nicely. I'll add a picture so you guys can see the progress.
