I need knowledgeble advice real fast. On one of my 125g I have 3 current catfish around 15-19". The tank has two fluval 405's and 3 emp 400's. Pristine water conditions, and over filtered. The problem is I'm leaving on vacation in the morning for four days. The one 405 just started making noise today, so I cleaned it but found out a plastic snap has broken of inside that holds the propeller tight. I can get a new one but not until I get back. I went ahead and cleaned the other one at the same time and it has a small crack in the housing that is sucking in air and leaking water at the same time. I can also repair this when I get back.

My question is: If I turn off the filters now!!!! Will my benificial bacteria be safe till monday night possibly tuesday afternoon???????? Like I said the tank is overfiltered and they just got a water change so that's not the main problem. Someone once told me that the power went out for a long time and the bacteria went from anerobic to arobic( something like that) and killed all the fish when he turned them back on. I don't want this to happen. If that's not possible the next question is will all the benificial bacteria die over a four day period??? It will still be submersed...
Need answers fast!!!!
Thank's in advance for your help...

if you shut the filters off now and turn them back on tuesday... i can prettymuch promise you that whatever toxic sludge comes out of them will kill everything in your tank... that is if there is anything left alive after 4 days of no filtration...

now if you take all the media and shove it in some soda bottles* with some holes in it and toss on a powerhead or a bubbler... everything "should" be prettymuch ok.. the tank will be dirty and will need a water change.. but with 3 15"-19" catfish my guess is you are doing water changes every few days anyway so no big deal..
quick and dirty internal filters work great.. you get to use all the bio you already had however the mechanical part just slows down unless you have a really good powerhead....

as for the small crack... fix it now with some silicone and it will be ready to run in less than an hour.. if you dont have any silicone... you are a bad fishkeeper and should know better ;)

*dont try and shove all the media through the little hole.. cut a flap open on the side near the bottom and stuff everything in that way.. if you want to go nuts put a ziptie around the flap to keep it shut.. its best to cut the holes before you cut the flap..

use th good parts from the 2 broken filter to make 1 working filter, fix the left over doubly broken filter when you get back

That's what I was thinking about doing.

Yup, that's what I did. Just didn't have enough time before we left to get them both up and running right. Back now and everything is fine. (I'm glad I overfilter everytank).I'm getting the part I need this week at a LFS and going to use half the good media and half the probably dead media in each filter to give them a quick jumpstart again.
Thank's for the help...
