Help how to keep plants alive.

The dirt tank sounds kind of fun to try and experiment with but I think I might just try and change the lights and buy fertilizer for my plants first. I didn't know they made fertilizer for aquarium plants. I don't really have the money to buy a CO2 tank. And that was the only pictured I had on my plants. I know the plants were a long shot with cichlids but so for my fire mouths have left the plants alone and haven't tried eating it or digging it up. But the plants are going to go into my 3 are guppy tanks cause I need more hiding place for the guppies especially the babies if the mom has her babies before I can switch her into my breeding tank to raise the babies, I've had that happen and the other guppies eat most of the babies before I can get to them.

BTW, I posted a thread under "600 gallon fiberglass vat" showing pictures and short video of a dirt tank. The tank has bright lighting and high nutrient soil but in this case no CO2 injection. It is not heavily planted, despite the fact there are lots of plants. Some of the bunch plants were damaged and a few destroyed by the addition of Denison's Barbs, but I don't care, I like the fish!

This is just to show what proper lighting and nutrients can do, the Crypts are spreading and filling in nicely!

For guppies you may want to find some Guppy Grass (Najas guadalupensis), it can be rooted or left floating, I have some I found growing wild locally and now have in several tanks. It is not bothered by a bit of salt or hard water that guppies prefer and it makes a great hiding place for the fry. It fragments easily but nearly every piece will grow.

^ the problem with high light and ferts but NO Co2 can also cause a lot of algae if not handled properly...
