Hey fellow fish keepers I pick this guy up as “ African cichlid” but through my research I believe him to be an orange blossom peacock cichlid , but if I am wrong please help me out also can we get a positive sexing on this guy? Also does anyone know a little natural history on these guys?
It is an OB Peacock Cichlid (Orange-Blotched peacock). They are hybrids and are usually more aggressive than other peacocks. Yours could possibly be a good colored female as males usually display some shiny blue color around the head area and in your pictures it looks to me like your fish does not have any of this. Females are usually more docile than males.
OB peacock as ken says. I think this fish has been juiced (hormoned) up the wazoo though. I'd be surprised if that colour doesn't SERIOUSLY fade sooner than later.
I was just about to say the same thing. That fish looks really colored up which often times at that size means it has been hit with hormones. I actually think it looks more male due to the longer pointed fins but that could also change with age.
I hope it keeps its colors for you. Really good looking fish
Also is that a Pseudotropheus crabro, the Bumblebee Cichlid or Hornet Cichlid in the picture? If so be careful those are notoriously aggressive. Interested to see how the tiger barb and other tropical fare in the long run in that tank.
