Help I.D.

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
def not african lol, def a red devil, as others have said its impossible to tell if its pure without knowing where it came from as most commonly available midas or RD in petstores are hybrids of the two, but it def leans heavily on the red devil side with its characteristics, def a nice pick up!!! :)

Thanks everyone this helped out alot because i was wondering why this fish is so aggressive...and i cant find any background info on it since i bought it from a petsmart.

yeah these guys are definitely bruisers, what size is your tank and how big is he and his tankmates. once he gets larger he will most likely try to take that tank for himself. only fish i see standing a chance is the jag but even then he may take it out

the tank is a 55 but half of the fish in there are my sister's and im holding them until she gets a bigger tank since her pacu broke her other one

oscar- 12-13ins
jag- 6-7ins
salvini- 2-3ins
pacu- 11-12ins
pleco- 8-9ins
pink midas/red devil- 6-7ins
orange midas/red devil- 4-5ins
flowerhorn- 5-6ins

ok yeah those fish are definitely going to be taking each other out soon, i would suggest just rehoming that pacu as they get 2ft in diameter and need a large pond or huge tank to be comfortable, and yeah the salvini is really the only fish that stays small enough to stay in a 55g for life and normally FH dont tolerate tankmates at all once mature though some people get lucky with them, but yeah in the meantime while your sister gets another tank you should be doing daily water changes to keep the water parameters in check with that many large fish and to prevent the oscar from getting HITH

I do water changes every saturday n i think she's getting rid of the pacu since thats the 2nd tank it has ruined and im gonna get a 125gallon in about 2more weeks. And my flower horn isn't looking very good since the orange red devil/midas has gotten big enough to take it on:(...i had2 move it to my 20gallon.

yeah once a week would be fine with just one of those fish in there but with all of them you really should be doing them every day or at least every other day (have your sister help with them since half of them are hers) oscars are really susceptible to getting HITH and the main cause of it is bad water conditions, and im sure your nitrates are through the roof in a weeks time. not to rag on you or anything, im just saying what you can do to help the fish be more comfortable in the meantime while your waiting on the larger tank. and a 125 still wont be big enough for all of them. maybe for the O, jag, salvini, pleco and one devil/midas (if it tolerates tankmates as it grows) but even then that will be a really stocked tank once they are grown and would need super filtration, and would be lucky for them to all get along. but yeah sounds like you guys dont have a good lfs, sounds like they will just sell you whatever in order to make a sale, i think pacus really shouldnt be kept in stock and should only be ordered on special request since they get SOOOOO massive and really need ponds and not tanks, as your sister has found out, they will make the space if they dont think they have enough and a 2ft long and several inch thick dinner plate of muscle can do some damage
