Ok guys, I've been a busy little badger setting up my new tank building stand etc etc, gathering equipment and all that.

So I set up my tank today size (36" x 19" x 14") put my two pumps in (both internal) and they work fine, lovely current in the tank etc... Only thing is, they take up too much damn space!

So I'm looking at other possibilities, I'm on a tight budget... so ideally I'm looking to buy a 2nd hand pump/filter system. Can someone recommend something suitable for me? Although not a new 'latest model' type thing... maybe something 2-3 years old that I can probably pick up from someone else who has upgraded? or cheap online etc.

Be very grateful for your suggestions.

Thanks :cry::naughty::screwy:

Can you post a pic of what you have? Maybe we can help you modify you existing setup to meet your needs.

Hey Rally....

This is the smaller pump: ( a little rena)

This is the larger pump: (a biolife)

Ps... Ignore the white ropey stuff holding the pump in place, as all my gear was 2nd hand I'm missing the bit that attaches it to the aquarium glass so still trying to source one of those or make my own modified one... I won't put any fish in till I sorted that out though so don't worry, it's only on now for cycling purposes etc...

This is the tank naked, incase you need to see it to work out what external might be good for me.

Thanks.

You could always go with an Aquaclear - if the water level is that low, you can attach a second intake tube to the original to make it reach the bottom. If you aren't going to keep much in there, you can get away with just one of those instead of two.

I think once you decorate the tank (if you plan on it) You can hide them pretty well!

i don't think they take up that much space. Some fish might even enjoy resting on it

It'll be fine once you decorate.
you could pick up an aquaclear or emperor 400 for uner $50 online but youre overthinking this.Whats going in there?

MMMMMMMM thanks for the thoughts guys... The water level will be higher, it's only at that level till the whole cycles done etc...

I'm not 100% sure what i'm gonna keep in it yet. Half of me thinks nice community tank, heavily planted, nice and natural looking... Other half of me think minimum decoration/objects and a monster or two....

let me sleep on it and i'll report back tomorrow ok guys.

I think the big question is what is your water level going to be? Are you going to decorate it or just leave it bare? I think if you want something fairly cheap, the go with an aquclear HOB filter. They really are not all that expensive. But you could hide it on the back wall behind rocks, plants ect. if needed too.

ps.... if i did go for the option of heavily decorating it etc to hide the pumps, how often will i have to clean the pumps? just thinking about them being easily accessible etc..
