Just got back from vacation and I think that my fish has bloat. Just two, my prized male and one female. They are breathing very hard and have a very fat stomach. I am so sad. Can you guys describe bloat to me and tell me how to cure it? Thanks alot guys.

what type of fish and what are you feeding, are you sure its not just constipation?

They have as if some white thing popping out of them and they are heavily breathing. I forgot to mention that I had a dead female in there. I am pretty pissed right now. I don't want to lose my fish. By the way they are Victorian cichlids and I believe them to have Malawi Bloat which is pretty common for most Africans. What do you guys think I should do? Is it contagious?

do you think it is more like dropsy, bloat, an internal parasite, air bladder disease, or gas bubble disease. they all look somewhat similar, but dropsy is much more common than bloat. do their scales poke out?
are they still eating?

Malawi bloat is the same thing as bloat I think, but no, their scales don't pop out. I have no clue to what it is. All these years I have never encountered such a thing. I am so sad and pissed right now. I wasn't there taking care of my fish. I regret it so much. How should I treat it.

is their anus protruding? what are you feeding?

Yes their anus are protruding. I am feeding them new life spectrum. I also forgot to mention that my fish need vegetable matter in their diet. I forgot to get some spirulina flakes. I think its because of diet. It happened to my brother's trio of Victorian cichlids too. I will do a big water change and add some aquarium salt and aquarium clout.

thats probably whats doing it they can be pretty sensitive diet wise...sory about it all...i know how you feel...i've done the same thing
