Help, I think my snake is starving

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
As you know now, your shedding is most likely either low humidity or underfed or both.Care full anytime placing it in water as to make sure it is not too deep in case it gets tired. You might just want to keep an area under a hide cave or make one with a humid spot in your cage. You can hold it under luke warm water and rub its body front to back and help some off.Mine does not have anything but a water bowl for humidity and I mist him now and then.I really think you problem has been not feeding enough.I doubt its parasites but see how long he takes to gain some weight back and if you dont see anything in a few weeks then see a vet.,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Being a corn snake with the higher metabolism you will want to feed it every 6 days or so.Once a month or so works with large snakes that eat big meals and sit still all day.Corns are always ready for more food.Make sure your feeding a good sized meal, not to big but big enough.Make sure its temps are good, too cold and digestion is a fail and it can get ill.I say its the feeding, mine never had a bad shed but he eats about 2 mice every 10 days.Post pics as soon as you can please.Im glad its alive though,I remember when you got it.Keep it fed dude,no laggin.

Okay he just ate again, so that is good. Thanks very much for the helpful responses guys.

I feed him pinkies every 6 or 7 days. (Right now every 5 days). I have a mini spraying bottle I used for hermit crabs. Should I use that to lightly spray him? Also should I spray the tank a bit to humidify it?

okay so i guess im the first one to notice this, in the first post he said that his snake loooked underweight because he could see his ribs. Ive always been under the impression that snakes dont have ribs .... right?

thanks for trying to help but you cant trust local petstore all the time and a year would not be good for your pet.A huge overfed fat snake would live sure, but not a young corns snake. Please study these things more before giving others advice and always remember that pet stores can really be misleading.Do your homework and gain some solid knowladge so you can help us help others because its shown that you care or you wouldnt have posted in the first place.Dont let snakes go a year and especialy young growing ones.

it sounds to me that your pet store doesn't know the difference between the larger pythons and balls. the larger snakes that are over 12' or so can go extended periods without food. under the right circumstances, humidity fresh water and such. the smaller pythons wouldn't make it 4 months with out food, with out serious health issues. even when balls reach adult hood it is not a good thing to let them go more than 30 days without food. the exception is burmation. if you control the temp so it is low your snake will go into a hibernation state, for snakes it is called burmation. balls do not naturally do this though. the exception is for snakes that would burmate in the wild. Sorry for getting of the topic of the sick snake but i felt that david09 needed some info.
