my wife brought home a small striped catfish wiith a long white tail . I dont know much about cats any ideas. thanx

Do you have any idea of the family? can you post a picture? There are a lot of possibles. Do the stripes run lengthwise or across?
Thanx for the reply Guppy, After looking at the other posts I think it is a Brachyplatystoma juruense? It lookes like the pictures i found. any info on it?
Hw big does it get, what will it eat ? My wife saw it at a pet goods and liked it
I have it in a 20 gal with some angels for now but if its going to get big i will put it with my african pike. Right now its 3'' long.

Start looking for that monster tank. A 240 gal should be about right for that juruense. This cat isn't the biggest of the shovelnose cats but, it'll reach a respectable 24"+ in an aquarium. As far as feeding him, that expanding mouth on him can pull down fish up to half the cat's length (and a little more).

you should give it to me my wife paid twenty at pet goods paramus nj . I also bought my african pike there for twenty but they had it labled as a tiger fish. by the way the girl had no idea what kind of cat it was.
