my neighbors were playing with firecrackers and the noise might have startled the poor guy. the next morning the snout was damaged pretty bad and one thing led to another, followed by fin rot
oh no, altus is very hard to find in my neck of the woods! dunno if i'll ever find one again real soon.

The humeral spot (black spot) is more pronounced on altus but visible at certain angles on falcatus.
Altus has a shorter top jaw by a little. Or under bite.
Falcatus jaws are even.
Your fish has a under bite.
But other then a little difference in jaw structure. They both act the same and obtain the same size in aquaria. And falcatus are more popular so that may be a alternate replacement for you.

Cuda's are my favorite fish I currently own 12.

Currently i have 7 yellow tail (just lost 4 last week due to tank transfer and fin rot) and a dozen of falcatus babies. the lfs told me so but they look like yellow tail. cant tell the diff. will share you the pics when im back home
